The Fire:
This is the second consecutive week that I've chosen the Fire card from the deck. It's unusual for me to pull the same card when I ask Graciella what this week's message is for this community. But yes, the fire. Many of us feel as though we are literally in the fire. I've read two political messages likening the state of our nation to a five-alarm fire and it appears that Graciella agrees. What comes to mind, is how rapidly fires spread. Panic leads us to take actions that help to spread fire. We forget to close doors. We don't have fire extinguishers on hand. We don't think of the R-A-C-E acronym that we learn during our trainings at work. Rescue, Alarm, Contain or Confine, and Extinguish or Evacuate. Basically, we are taught to get ourselves and anyone else in harm's way away from the fire, call for help, contain or hold off the spread of destruction, and finally put the fire out or help those around you get to safety, including yourself, if you are in danger of being destroyed. Seems simple, on the face of it during a fire. But what happens to us when we promote news that hasn't been fact checked first, by us. I, too, can get caught in a wave of anxiety and can forget about the basic rules of the RACE acronym. I'm reminded to keep grounded, share important news that is credible and has been fact-checked, help my fellow brothers and sisters who need my help, and stay away from the fray. I believe this is what Graciella would like me to share today. If not, she will let us know during next week's reading. Because that's what Graciella does, she keeps it real.
