Tonight I felt so lazy in pulling this week’s card. I’d written a few more lines to the second installment of my Daisy Muñiz mystery series- Murder at the Gowanus Canal and wanted to just sit and add more but the manuscript will wait for me to come back to it. The last week and a half has been jam packed. Yesterday, I had the great pleasure of sharing in Comité Noviembre that is a grand family event at Hostos Center for the Arts that’s held yearly. Puerto Rican artists and authors come together and it becomes, well, a festival! I plan to share a bit more on that this week, but other things were also cooking. We returned from packing up our little house in Puerto Rico as we have placed it on the market. My Dad got sick so I spent vital time with him. My dear aunt, who was 99 years old, crossed over and we went to the wake. Not to mention I managed to weave in getting back to work this week too. Are there enough hours in the day? What have you been doing? When I speak to friends and family, we are all moving so quickly.
But I did pull the card. As usual, I smudged with sage, shuffled the cards, and fanned them out on a clear smooth surface. I centered and joined with Graciella’s energy. Together we pulled the North/Norte card from the oracle deck.
The north! of course. Be at peace with the goings on at this time of year. The north speaks of the ancestors. It speaks of those who have been our relatives, either those elders that continue to guide us or those who have already crossed through the veils. They are the ones that have shared their great wisdoms with us. The one we yearn to be with as they feed us with the rich stories of their lives, teaching us how to live in grace, in honor, and with dignity.
For myself, today is my sister’s birthday. She crossed over at the age of fifteen. She was my elder. I feel her presence strongly at this time of the year especially. The anniversary of my mother’s death comes on November 27. She left us at Thanksgiving time. It is bittersweet when those we love cross over. I remember the unexpected feeling of relief when my mom passed. The knowledge she was no longer suffering helped my own grief along with a multitude of other feelings that came with her crossing. I spoke with a cousin today who shared a similar story. We were able to give each other strength at this difficult time of thin veils.
At some point today, I had the realization that I have become an elder. I’m no longer the child who was emotionally hurt so many years ago. That is part of my fiber but I’m now one of the ones that share the wisdoms that come with living many years on the planet. It was interesting to realize that. Why didn’t I notice that before when I looked in the mirror at my gray locks. It’s good for me to know that I have something to offer others who are now feeling what I have in the past. I have the opportunity to share as the wise one.
Graciella and I would both love to know how you are dealing with the North, the thin veils, and this time of nostalgia during the holiday season. Won’t you share that with us? We invite you to leave a comment below.
We just returned from a Mexican restaurant, LaFrontera, here in Puerto Rico. The food was delicious and the service very nice. We sat outdoors and enjoyed this beautiful clear 75 degree weather. Last evening we ate at ElSarten Criollo where I usually eat mofongo. But last night I ate asopao de pollo. Chicken soup with broth that’s to die for with rice that’s perfectly cooked. It’s with a full and happy belly that I pulled a card with Graciella.
Tonight I didn’t smudge, but was sure to center and join with Graciella’s energy as I especially asked that the message I channel would be a general one for all for this week. I’ve been focused on the packing here in Puerto Rico as I’ve just placed my house on the market and didn’t want any mix-ups.
Together we shuffled, fanned the oracle cards, out and pulled the Changes/Cambios card. This card tells us to be mindful of things, activities, and situations that will change. Keep the idea of quickness in mind. There’s no time to dwell or ruminate on our desires or wants. Be ready to jump into action..
This card brings forth sweetness such as the sugar I see falling out of the canister. In this particular read I also see a sliver of gold. Something that might have been lost shows up again.
This reading foretells that something good is coming. Be ready for it. Be sharp and on the lookout. It may entail family or loved ones. This may be your week!
Below is the general weekly reading that Graciella and I did today for our readers. I won’t be writing out the verses that are in the booklet, those you can obtain with the deck. I do personal consultations if you’d like to reach out. I can do readings by phone if you’re not close by. Graciella and I aim to share her collective wisdom with the readings. If they don’t resonate at first, revisit the post a few days later. They may be more personal to you at that point.
Reading for September 30, 2018
As always in preparation, I smudged with sage, centered, lit a white candle, and shuffled the deck. I fanned it out in front of me. I felt Graciella’s energy and together we pulled a card. This week’s general concept is Friendship-Amistad. I listened for Graciella’s words and wrote them down as I heard them.
There is no need to be alone or to feel alone as you truly aren’t. There are many who have shared separately in circumstances such as the ones that you are experiencing at this time. There may be a sense of solitude but that cloak may be easily shed by actively throwing it off. Don’t wait for someone to take it off for you. There’s no room for passivity here. Stretch your arms out to touch those like-minded individuals who can support you through any tribulation toward triumph. You are not holding the circle of friendship together by yourself but are merely one of the links that hold the golden strands collaboratively. Each piece gathers cooperatively to make the whole. Just like in a charm bracelet, occasionally a link may need repair or a charm may go missing. A little prayer, to St. Anthony, perhaps, often brings back the wayward piece, back to the circle in which it belongs and lives thereafter quite happily with the other charms- linked together in eternity. Times may seem trying but they are not insurmountable with the strength of friendship, with the love of a friend.
This week the oracle traveled to the Met, Central Park and Flushing Meadow Park. The illustrator, Mara Cordova, is vacationing back at home in Brooklyn. While not abstaining from a jam packed fun filled week, she carried a few cards with her daily, along with her sketch pad. Graciella is at yet another level of copy. Her beauty and feeling is simultaneously simple with great depth. I am seeing and understanding things that I’ve never before in the cards. Although I started the process by listening to Graciella’s words, my daughter has continued the process and is taking La Gitana’s story to a new level. Tonight, I gathered up the cards, gave them and all of us a great big smudge and centered. The card I pulled along with Graciella was the South card.
Image: The image is of Graciella. She is standing in a meadow with magnificent trees in the distance. There are flowers at her side. Graciella’s eyes are closed and she is breathing in the energy that surrounds her.
Words: Raise your face to the sun. Trust what is being freely shared with you. There are no answers other than the soft feeling of comfort on your shoulders that offers protection as you travel on your way. All will be shown clearly in its due time.
Read: Immediately I think of the Morning Tobacco Prayer. “To trust and innocence, simplicity, to little mouse, to the good road home, to the south, I pray for your power and spirit to come in.” This is one part of a beautiful prayer that I was gifted with many years ago. To share in a spiritual life one is provided with community, one doesn’t have to do anything alone. While we aspire, have hopes and dreams we are also in the great position of not being in ultimate control of anything. Whew! That would just be too much for anyone of us, despite what we may think. I’ve often heard, “I don’t know what Higher Power is but I do know it’s not me.” We are allowed to fret about outcomes, we can pray for things to happen, and gather ourselves up into frenzies, losing all sensibility as we spin. What we don’t have to do is to think we’re in charge. We will be protected and can depend on those who come into our lives to support us, in whatever small ways, as we realize our true potentials.
Let me know how this card takes shape in your life this week. I’d love to hear from you.
Burning sage cleansed the room. A fan of feathers swirled away energy no longer needed. I sat, centered and grounded myself to pull today’s card with Graciella, la Gitana. In shuffling the cards I saw the many different faces and anticipated which card would come forward with its message today. We pulled the card, as I felt Graciella’s energy infuse me. I was ready. La Gitana! Again. This was the same card I pulled the last Sunday evening I sat ready for the read. While this isn’t the celebrate card, this is the message I received. Celebrate yourselves and your lives!
Image: Graciella laGitana dances barefoot. She is wearing her swishy skirt, her hair is swinging loose and she holds the tambourine high with ribbons twirling. Next to her sits a male who is smiling as he plays a guitar. On her other side is a parrot who sits on his stand, watching over all. Behind her is a curtain that hides another room. Next to that room is a door that has a ring hanging on it. On closer inspection the ring is shaped like an animal bone-a bull’s horn or the crescent moon.
Words: Tambourine jingling, guitar strumming. Others have told you about your identity. Stories have been told about you. Movies and songs have been written about you. It is important for others to think what they need. You know who you are. You know what your identity is. Keep the mystery.
Read: Apparently Graciella wants us to receive her message again. Celebrate! Dance. Let the vibration of sound course through you. Allow yourself to be the instrument of happiness, your truth, your destiny! It’s none of your business what others think of you. Did you do the right thing? Did you buy the right outfit? Did you serve the right dessert? These things are superfluous to who we are meant to be on the planet. Being who we are, without the need to defend ourselves, decreases our tendencies to limit ourselves. We don’t have to offend in order to get our point or ourselves across. Doing this with love is gift giving to ourselves and to those around us. To freely be ourselves is something many of us have walked centuries across to accomplish. Start today, in one action, in one moment. The gentleness or ferocity of this feat depends on you.
